We are looking forward to a great year with loads of brilliant things going on.

 

 

Literacy :

In Literacy we focus on the book called Coming to England By Floela Benjamin for Autumn 1 and Nen and the Lonely Fisherman by Ian Eagleton and James Mayhew for Autumn 2,where we will write a fantasy story based on a classic tale. We will use conjunctions to express time, place and cause, use adverbs to express time, create characters, settings and plot. 

Maths:

In maths we learn about place value(reading and ordering numbers), addition using mental and written methods, subtraction using mental and written methods, multiplication and division.

Science:

This term , we will be exploring some exciting science topics. We will investigate how are bodies work, learn about  healthy lifestyle,discover different types of rocks and think about how we can help protect our environment.

History:

This term, Year 3 will be back in time to discover the fascinating world of Ancient Egyptians. We will explore how this remarkable civilisation lived, what they believed and how their achievements continue to influence our lives today. 

 

 PE is currently on a Monday.Children are learning about Cheer dance this term using their skills to coordonated and balance while learning dance moves.  Children need to come to school on a Monday wearing school PE kit.  This is a plain black or red sweatshirt and plain black tracksuit bottoms or leggings.  T shirts should be plain white or red.  Children need to be wearing trainers and need to be able to remove their own earrings.  If they cannot remove their own earrings they should not be worn to school on a Monday.

Spelling and Maths homework is set weekly on Edshed.  Children should be logging in and completing this each week.  All children have received their logins. Spelling test is currently on a Friday. 

Children should be regularly logging in and using TT Rockstars.  This is a fun way for children to learn and practice their times tables.

Children should be reading regularly at home and returning their reading diaries to school each day.  If children read 5 times in a week they receive a raffle ticket and have the opportunity to win a book in our Friday awards assembly.

• We have been learning about the Ancient Egyptian pyramids in History and we have become archeologists exploring the tombs for ourselves in class, finding and then drawing artefacts. 
• Our Egyptian learning has continued in Music, where we have been learning more about the Egyptians through a variety of songs about The River Nile, The Gods and Goddesses and building the pyramids. If you would like to enjoy singing these songs at home, then please find a link below.

• In Science we have drawn around each others bodies and then labelled the bones that form our human skeleton, we have now moved onto comparing our skeletons to those of animals. 
• In Literacy we have been focusing on prepostitions and conjunctions and using these more widely in our sentences. 

-A preposition is where something is for example: behind, on top of, inside, next to

-A conjunction is a word that is used to support joining a sentence for example: and, but, so, while, since, because. 

• In Maths, we have completed our learning on Place value and we are now focusing more heavily on Addition and Subtraction of 2 and 3 digit numbers. 
• In P.E the children have been enjoying their Cheer lessons and have begun to form their own cheer and perform stunting, where they lift they peers as a team. 
• In R.E we have been exploring Christianity, Judaism and Sikhism and their key Rites of passages. 
• In RSHE we have looked at our No Outsiders text: Our House and from this we have explored discrimination, different family structures, friendships and stereotypes with the children. 
• In Spanish, we are largely working on the pronunciation of the alphabet to apply to reading and saying words in Spanish. 
• In Design and Technology, we have designed our pneumatic systems (a system that works through air) and we our beginning to create our Moving Monsters based on our designs.
